If you are looking for a small town setting within an easy
commute to center city Philadelphia, Swarthmore is ideal. Founded in 1893, Swarthmore lies south west
of Philadelphia and is most notable for being the home of Swarthmore College.
Swarthmore College sits almost at the center of town, just
up the hill from the train station. The
Borough is a busy stop on The Septa Media Local train line, providing an easy
commute to University City and center city Philadelphia. Most Swarthmore homes are an easy fifteen
minute or less walk to the train station.
Sidewalks grace almost every street, allowing one to walk to school,
the Swarthmore Swim Club, or the town center.
Several businesses are conveniently located on Park and Dartmouth
Avenues, as well as Chester Road. The SwarthmoreCO-OP is an amazing gourmet grocery store that is open to the public, in
addition it is very reasonable to join and members receive additional savings. Several eclectic shops and eateries call
Swarthmore home including Swarthmore Hardware (a real hardware store), OccasionallyYour’s, Renato’s, and Paulson Rug Company (one of the area’s finest and oldest rug
stores).
Swarthmore is served by the award winning Wallingford SwarthmoreSchool District. The Swarthmore-RutledgeElementary School is located on College Avenue, a short walk from most homes. Strathaven Middle School and Strathaven HighSchool are located a short drive away in Wallingford.
