Bowling Green is a charming, early 20th century
development of Wallingford, PA. Built primarily
during the 1920’s and 1930’s, the small
enclave features many large Colonial and Tudor style homes,
with an interesting
mix of smaller cottage and Arts & Crafts homes as well. It has many eccentricities, one being its
mailing post office, which is Media, not Wallingford and the other, which is
very desirable, is that it is one of the only Wallingford communities that has
sidewalks.
Bowling Green is composed of Mulberry Lane, Truepenny Road,
Luckie Lane, Quaint Road, Surrey Road and Twyckenham Road. All but a few homes located on Bent Road, are
part of the Wallingford Swarthmore School District. Those few homes on Bent Road are actually
located in Upper Providence Township and children from those homes go to the
Rose Tree Media School District (and consequently, have lower taxes).
Entering from Providence Road, one comes through the stately
stone pillars announcing our arrival to Bowling Green. The streets are wide with mature trees and
the diversity of the homes architecture, make for an unmistakable charm. Gracious large, stone Colonials mix seamlessly
with the charming cottages and Tudor homes.
The availability of sidewalks, allow one a casual stroll to the nearby
shops and restaurants of State Street in Media, including Iron Hill, Azie, TheTownhouse and Shere-E-Punja to name just a few.
Too tired to walk, the Media trolley is conveniently located at the
entrance to Bowling Green.
